The small man

decided to make a break for it. He has not got far to go now. A few more quick steps and he will be at the edge. And he will continue to run scared. Running through midair, tumbling into the abyss. Moving his legs and arms as he plummets towards the ground. Plunging into oblivion. Crushing into the emptiness. Nose-diving into the darkness. Spiralling into the unknown. In the search of tranquillity. Listening to the whooshing sound of the wind and for a moment, a very brief moment, realising that this is the sound of freedom.
The others remained in the village. They watched as the Little Man disappeared from the top of the cliff. They have no idea what to do next. They all hate the situation, but they believe that sacrificing one of their children every day will make it all better. But now that the Little Man jumped, do they still need to sacrifice a child today? They are running out as it is. There are no more teenagers, there are no more children in the 5-12 age group, only a few toddlers remain. And if their sacrifice will not suffice, the elderly will have to start jumping. With the hope that the gods will listen and send the remaing few a new Mercedes and iPod to strengthen their social status.

Dance day

I saw quite a few dance performances today, different levels, different ideas, different styles, and as you know watching (and photographing) dance always brings a smile to my face, but still the best moment was what appeared to be spontenous dancing in the street.

Goldfish

seem to be quite arty. It is not the first time I saw one wondering around an art exhibition

An intense moment

at the baby shower... I guess she was trying to scare the baby out. (But it is nice to have slightly crazy friends.)

An idea I really like

(and not the best photo of the evening, but I thought I would focus on the idea and not on the photo this time).
During a concert, an artist (or two) creates a CD cover while listening to the music. The audience can watch how the cover is being made on the large projection (in real time) and can at the end of the concert buy an original and one off CD recording of the concert with the unique CD cover. Is this great or what?

Marilyn M

dancing her heart out for her daddy.
So do you think this photo is good enough to be in my huge, gigantic, colossal, gargantuan, humongous December exhibition of dance photographs? (I can really do with some suggestions here)... Yikes, I hope I will take lots and lots and lots more dance photos by then (keep that in mind when you have your next dance performance)...
For more from this performance see my whole album.

I guess

they were trying to drop a subtle hint when they sent me to document an exhibition on shaving paraphernalia.

Roses are red...

violets are blue...
what is love all about
and who are you?

Fans handing flowers to the singer didn't seem to be so popular before, but now I have seen it 3 times in about 10 days. So is this a new trend in Ljubljana? Or did I just start going to different concerts?

A bit of an ...

blunder?... excuse? ... explanation? Well, it has been over a week since I last posted. But I did take photos (a lot of them) in the meantime, I just didn't have the time to go through them. In between I appeared in a performance in Seoul and Busan (how do I do it I wonder?), had some translation work to do (so I earned some money and will live to see another week - yey!), took loads of photos and that was about it... but it went by so fast and it took up all of my days... So now I am going to try and catch up a bit...
So, I guess first things should come first. The last time I did write in the blog I just got the chance to spend two days with Josef Nadj and his dance company, so even though I had work to do, I decided I will make the best of these two days and catch up with the work by working really really (oh yeah, did I say really) hard over the weekend. Unfortunately I could not take photos at the performance itself (which does pain me a bit as they did not use any paints during the rehearsals, and they do make a difference), but otherwise had a great two days and tried out some things, which will hopefully make me a better photographer. There were times when I was a bit worried about the work I had to do, but, you know, get real, you can't really be worried for more than a few seconds when you have a camera in your hand and a performance in front of you, can you?

Sometimes I have

no idea what makes me chose one photo over the other. In this case it might be all down to the ax.

I have a feeling...

this might be a good year for exhibiting (as soon as I get my act back on track), even though I just learned yesterday that my two exhibitions in Subotica and Novi Sad have been canceled (oh yeah, lack of funds - don't you just love these saving schemes - first they take my work, then they take my fun).

Jesus!

It is Zola. If ever I could define a concert as sweet and short this was it (even though it was cut short due to throat problems). So I better keep the blog post short and end it by saying: Get well soon Zola.

Shyness and all that

Sometimes I watch a performance and get an idea for a photo. And the shy person that I am (oh yes, indeedy) I used to find it impossible to - after the show - approach a person I wanted in the photo and ask him or her (or in really tough cases them) to pose for me, you know, just because I had an idea (of course I was thrilled about the idea, but I thought that if I told it to somebody else they would think it was just plain stupid). Unfortunately this means that I have a few unrealized photos floating around my brain (which I think is a shame). But, luckily I managed to overcome this shyness to some extent and can now - after minutes of agonising (usually you know you don't have a lot of time before everybody disperses) - walk up to a person and ask him or her (or even them) to pose for me (and just in case you were wondering, this photo is a result of one such moment). So, if you are shy and I come to ask you to pose for a photo, try to overcome your shyness knowing that I had to overcome mine to walk up to you and ask you to do this.

It is

funny how many good (well good, you know, photos I like) dance photos I have taken in which the dancers are sitting on the floor. Makes me think.

Mental mapping

Got involved in a project that is kind of mental mapping a small part of Ljubljana. At the moment I am the photographer in the project, but I will also have a session on the other side of the lens at some stage.
