I guess

the summer is coming to an end, so from the many possibilities from this show, I decided to go with the most summery photo.

It is not often

you see the same musician two nights in a row (at very different venues, mind you). But it did give me a chance to observe how much it can all depend on the night and the circumstances. The first night she was a support act at a large venue (well large for our small hamlet, somewhere on the shady side of the Alps) and her performance was rather bleak. I had a feeling it could have been any band up there on stage. Just doing their job, nothing special. Luckily for me I have seen her before and I knew she could do better. So the next night I walked down to my local to see what she has for us today. What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours... So, after a slightly off day: welcome back Nadeah.

Even though

I preferred the support act (Parliament attack), which was much more punk (even though, once I saw some of their photos from before I did start thinking that they might be a bit more planned - not quite on the level of the Sex Pistols,  Malcom McLaren and Vivienne Westwood) but some thought was put into their image and the way the want to come across (damn this consumer world in which even punk bands (supposedly fighting against it) fall under its charms), I still decided to post a photo of the main act (Spunk on toast), just because I liked this photo at the moment I started writing the blog, and because it is my blog and I can do whatever I want (ufff I need to be a spoiled twelve year old brat sometimes).
(The sentence above (yes, it is just the one) just shows that I have been working too much lately on translating scientific texts from Slovene (where they really like their long sentences, with a side order of a double espresso, for breakfast))

Angry songs

because the men (and women and children) in the street are angry. They are slowly running out of options to be anything else really. Slowly (I wrote slowly, and immediately (!) realised that this process is not really unwinding so slowly) all the rights our grandparents were fighting for in the war and our parents were streaking naked through the park (which I consider a more fun option than fighting wars - not to mention a less dangerous one) for, are being stripped away (yup, just like the clothes). So are we going to wither away in a dark, cold (well OK, not cold at this moment as we are just going through a heat wave) and damp corner, hoping to survive another pathetic week just so the two dates on our gravestones will be a bit further apart or are we actually going to do something about it?

I usually

really like this guy, but this time he was as prepared as a schoolboy on his first day of school after a really really long summer break during which he fell in love for the first time, learned how to swim, watched his parents get divorced, moved to a different town, got a puppy as a consolation prize and on the last day of the summer holidays got the newest, baddest, wickedest playstation game ever made.

Jagger

No, not Mick and the Rolling Stones. His kid brother Chris with his band.

Thursday, 1 August 2013

A bit rough

on the edges and in the core, the duet managed to scare away two English girls sitting at the table next to me before the concert started (c'mon guys how am I supposed to get to know any girls if you scare them away?)

Surf rock

I can't really get into it without the breaking waves, blue skies, at least one woody and a couple of surfs on its roof, and girls in bikinis in the background.

Trnfest 2013

some say it is the last one. Ever. Last year they told us it might be the last one. Ever. But today was the first day. And there are more than 30 to go. I guess this means we have to party like there is no tomorrow. Or at least as if there will be no Trnfest next year. So, see you there.

I think

I saw the first ever concert of this band years ago (I know I went to see them years ago, but I think it was their first ever). It is always great to see  things for the first time (just like the title of the first Repetitor album which translates roughly as All that I see, I see for the first time.)

Strolling

into the old part of the city, getting tapped on the shoulder by Dr. Who, who whisks me off into the 1920s. Cocktails and wild swinging (no silly, the dance) all night, and waking up the next morning in a large and empty bed in the 21st century.

Leonard

A real classic, whose lyrics I have always enjoyed, and I am glad I got the chance to see him in concert and take a few snaps of him while listening.
(Still looking good, Leonard)

Hugh

Laurie and the Copper Bottom band playing the blues. Definitely a blues concert that will not make you leave feeling blue.
(p.s. and just to mix it up all a bit (because you know me, I do like to mix it all up a bit) - this is the closest I ever got to a bit of Fry and Laurie - I saw a bit of Laurie and maybe Fry will see a bit of this via Twitter)

A guy

who seems to be always more than willing to plunge headfirst into anything he believes in. Hats off to people like this.

One negligible,

unnoticed step for mankind, one giant leap for Suncan.
I guess most of you will have no idea what I am on about (and you will ponder for almost seconds as to why you have to look at this photo (taken by Tjasa N., btw), and those of you will probably have to read all about at some other stage (hmm, maybe in the partially (emphasis on partially) autobiographical novel I just might start writing in the long dark winter), but for the ones who know what it is all about, this photo might put a petit smile on your face.

Student

fashion show. As you have probably noticed I don't often go to fashion shows, but every now and then, for a change, I will say why not.

Mascara

was the name of the band that gave us some summer evening fado and tango music, but I didn't notice the guitar player wearing any.

Don't

forget to have fun at exhibitions.
(and I wonder which photographer would not allow people to have fun and take photos at his exhibition)

Monday, 15 July 2013

Badges!

First badges I ever had made, and I think it is great to see my photos in a different format.

Saturday, 13 July 2013

Haven't

been here since my schooldays. I really need and want to travel more. Destinations I would like to go in the near future: the coast for a splash, the south of France, London + a round trip of UK, Norway, Ireland. This should do for starters. Need to sort a few things (in my life) out first (oh why do I need to sort everything out always?!?) and then I can start looking for a way to pay my way round these places (any ideas welcome).

Thursday, 11 July 2013

This photo

will tell you absolutely nothing about the exhibition at the opening of which it was taken (now there is an awkwardly worded sentence - too much Slovene influence for too long), but you don't often get photographed by this guy, so I thought I should post it. Of course, you can have a look at some of the other photos from the opening here.

The jazz festival

came and went once again, and I missed the things I planned to go and see (I really need to get better organised).

Saturday, 6 July 2013

I have

no idea why they always keep telling us not to play with fire - it looks great fun (not to mention impressive).

Friday, 5 July 2013

These guys

were great fun and you should go to see them if they come to your town (if they were released from prison, of course).

Thursday, 4 July 2013

Excellent

live band (and no, I am not saying this because they have a girl bass player and drummer).
