The first day was easy

it was all at the same venue and love was in the air.
Koala Voice (I always enjoy listening to them, but this time I felt they didn't make a step forward form the last time I saw them - and until now they always managed to do that)
Erki Pärnoja (I wasn't quite in the right mood for them that evening)
Heymoonshaker (they were my favourites of the evening as they really managed to fill the place with their energy and amazing sounds).
Sauropod (reminded me of someone but could't quite put my finger on it)
Tommy Cash (with a name like that you would expect him to be the younger (rather unknown) brother of Johhny, but no, he is a wacky rapper from Estonia (of all places).
Leni Kravac, ended the evening with a wild boost of energy.

A performance

followed by a concert
What more can a man need? (Well, OK, I could think of something, but I will leave that for another time and another place).

After missing

last year's festival (I was in London, so I had a good reason for not attending), and the first few days of this year's (also not in Ljubljana, but not quite as far) I saw a couple of great performances on my first day back... Looking forward to seeing the ones still to come...

The performance

about the small village I currently live in
and a performance about pineapples with a ballet insert.
(how diverse the student performances can be).

The hectic (but fun) festival days begin

with the violent early afternoon rehearsal by the Students in Glej
and as I got kicked out of the same rehearsal twice for being too early I popped down to the local library for a quick concert (nothing to do with festivals) before returning to the rehearsal (third time lucky (yey!))
where I just let myself get lost in the darkness of the theatre.

in place of a p.s. here is a photo from the rehearsals which had nothing to do with the performance.

My first time ever

in Laško. The beer (and flowers) festival started off with Natalie's press conference
and carried on with a series of concerts all across town:
Some sort of a local brass band, whose name was better suited for the festival (beer and čevapi), but which was surely better than any meat dish they might have named themselves after (their name seemed to be something they came up with at the last minute when they were told they could have a concert)
A peculiar Russian band (Russkaja), who played an eclectic combination of styles but were especially good at communicating with the public (and really did get them running around in circles).
The swingers Moonlighting Orchestra modeled themselves a bit on the Andrews Sisters and had a following of dancers in the crowd
The French brass band Attentat Fanfare are yet another (in the long line of) French party bands that pass on their great vibe onto the audience...
and they were followed by the unannounced surprise (as it was a surprise, it would be more surprising if it came announced) of Katrina walking on sunshine together with the Moonlighting orchestra (I guess the moon and sun had to be put on the same stage somehow)

Mi2 seemed to have the  most enthusiastic fans of the evening
Haven't seen them in a while (Šukar)
And the first day ended just like it started - with Natalie, only that she was singing on stage now
(oh yes, I might have had a little crush on her when I saw and heard Torn for the first time - way back in the 90s)
And yes, if you remember at the very beginning of this extraordinarily long post I mentioned that it was my first time (in Laško and at this festival). Of course I parked in the very centre of the town, at the very spot that turned out to be the where the biggest parties were going on, which meant that there was no way I could get out until we got escorted out by a security van at about 3.30 in the morning (guess who parked outside the town centre the next day?)

3 performances

(well to be honest 2 performances and 1 concert) second day in a row.

But this time I will post a single photo from the first performance.

As a special treat

I got 3 performances in a single night. This was all down to the Spider slang festival.

1. Ideal
The already almost classic duet of Leja and Teja.

2. Overandoverandoverand…
Three youngsters I know nothing about. But that will all change.

3. True romance
Oh yes, I sure could do with some. Obviously not with a crocodile, as I am rather old fashioned this way and I prefer a female of the homo sapiens species any day.

(Just to recap: It would be ideal to experience some true romance overanoverandoverand...)

It is always fun

to see someone in a new role (I think we should all try a new role every now and then).
Yo Marko!

OK Ment

I see what you are doing. Yesterday I wrote that I can't keep myself from falling in love at least a little bit while listening to a solitary girl pouring her heart out to a room full of strangers, so now you think you can do this to me every night.... But no, it just doesn't work like that, because that would be a bit too easy (would it not?).
