Flooding

I was ill for Christmas. Of course I was ill also on boxing day. But I knew the fields just a few miles out of town were flooded as we had loads of rain and the snow that fell not long ago was melting. So I just had to go and see it and photograph it of course. Took quite a few photos and here is one of them.

Walking in the snow (sung to the tune walking on the moon)

When sun does not show itself often, you have to rush out to greet it as soon as it pokes its nose out. Even if there is snow (or especially if there is snow) on the ground.

Couple of bands

I saw two bands play tonight. The singer of one of them made me think howcome he is still alive as he tends to be more drugs than human?

It's a tough job, but someone...

One of those days again. I saw 4 bands playing at 2 different venues. Some I liked, some I loved, some I thought should keep rehearsing in Joe's garage. Took some photos I think are good. So how to chose the 1 photo to post? Once you selected a couple of good photos from each band... Take a portrait of one of the band members? Post a photo of the whole band in action? Post a portrait of somebody from your favourite band of the evening? Post a shot of the audience so that you get the feeling of what it was like... I don't know... Even now that I have already decided I don't know... and if I faced the same selection tomorow I would chose a different photo. But here and now, it is the energy of the little drummer girl.

Gerhard, so who is he, when he is at home?

Saw 2 performances today, one of them twice. I know I can be a bit crazy. But I went to photo the rehearsal of Gerhard in the afternoon (which is where this photo is from). Even though it was a dress rehearsal, the dresses were there, but the set was stuck in a traffic jam less than 1 km away. If only it wasn't raining they would have brought it by foot... So, I had a set of photos without the set. Then I rushed to the cancer clinic to take a few photos of the performance there and from there back to Gerhard, so I could watch it in peace, not just looking for fragments that are pleasing for the eye. Of course I had to take a few photos from the front row, without distracting the public.

Noctiferia

Went to a concert again. Decided that Noctiferia only try to look real mean, but in reality they play music softly as little kittens playing a Vivaldi's string concerto on four balls of wool. But they sure like putting on a tough act, which provided me with a few good photos.

Borghesia

Went to photograph Borghesia today. For an interview in a magazine. It was cold and miserable and snowing... and I think it was the first time that I didn't want to leave home even though I knew I am going somewhere to take photos. Unfortunately the duo was also not in the bestest of moods as I dragged them around the place in the freezzing cold. Not the best photo day, but something had to be done I guess. And yes, oh how I missed a better lens... unbelievably so.

Zabranjeno Pusenje

Tonight made the classic mistake. As I could take someone along to the concert that I wanted to photograph, I decided to take a girl I fancy. Oh, no, no, no. That is like planing to have a picnic for Christmas (yup, I am thinking of us on the northern hemisphere, where Christmas is - unlike in Australia - a cold, often snow covered holiday). Then you are cought in the middle of OK I will take some photos and wondering whether she is OK or bored or does she mind that you are completely ignoring her... Yes, way to go me. Taking her to a concert and then ignoring her... well no I didn't really... well not all of the tim, anyway. But teh end result was that when I was thinking I should have been with her (cheering for the band?) and when I was with her (enjoying the music and crowd) I was thinking that I should be upfront taking photos. Anyway, lesson learned.

Bands galore... but could do without

Saw, and unfortunately also heard, 3 bands in a single mini fest of bad music. How bad it was I think is best described by the fact that the best band of the night was a band of youngsters playing punk that was so nothing special it almost (but just almost) made Green day look like real bad guys with an attitude and excellent lyrics. Have to take the opportunity to say sorry to my dad who I dragged along with me... You know come with me to a gig, it will be a laugh.... I suppose if you are cynical enough, all you could do is laugh. but: Sorry dad.

My exhibition

Ok, so I know this photo was not taken today. But today is the opening of my exhibition and this photo is one of the exhibited photos, so it should mark today, should it not?
The exhibition is called There is something I need to tell you and is a combination of photos I took of dance performances and my tweets.

Dark Jazz

I know. What is dark jazz? I had no idea what I was letting myself into. But in the end I enjoyed it. It is basically jazz/pop/mellow/electro something... that is what dark jazz is... just so you know

Poetry

Some days you need to go and listen to some poetry. And sometimes it is accompanied by some music. And sometimes it makes you think about things. And sometimes it inspires you. And sometimes you write poetry. And maybe one day it will inspire somebody else.

Exhibition time

At exhibitions photographers usually have a more documentary role. Sometimes, however, it is possible to take a an exhibited piece or a part of it and create something new, not just mark the object's existance. This was one such attempt.

Changed my opinion

Days that I go to take photographs at the cancer clinic are always a bit depressing. You know, they always make me think how many things I want to do before... but, no this is not meant to be a depressing post... This day Natalia Verbotten was perfoming for the patients and I must admit I was never her fan. But once I saw her and her magic touch with the patients and the time she took to establish a contact with each and every one of them I changed my mind. And she certainly made the patients smile, which must be good. Unfortunately, there is a great chance that I can say that many of them will remember this day until they die.
I am still not a fan of her work, but I now greatly appreciate her as a person. So this one is for you.

Dan republike

Party Time! Live band playing from within the crowd. It is almost like a Kusturica film (but not quite as wild).

Hommage a trois

Photographing a dance performance is ussually a great experience from which I can return with at least a few good photos. This time was no different. As the people from the performance have alredy seen the photos I can show you the one most of them liked. It seems to have something that appeals to most, even though they are all static in the middle of a dance performance.
