Last day of the dance festival
and is there a better photo to show that it is the end? The back is turned (which so clearly represents the end, it does not even need an explanation) but at the same time the figure is looking into the light (or a thousand splendid suns), which to me sort of indicates the anticipation of the new dance festival... Ok, this was a brief demonstration of what 7 years of studying history of art can do to you... will be back to my normal self tomorrow

Dance festival day 2
How to chose a photo when you have seen 5 performances and taken about 100 photos in a single day. Well obviously you can decide that you didn't like one of the shows... or you could decide that one of them was too dark and you didn't have a single decent photo to show... but even if this was the case you would still be left with a few performances, and more than one photo you like and could post... In the end you just go for one for a reason that you decide suits you and hope that the people who are interested will click a link to see the rest :)
(and my reason for chosing today's photo is that I just enjoyed playing around with the camera settings so that I could get a photo like this)

I like to move it, move it...
The dance festival started. And you all know how I love to take photos of dance performances... But I like it most when I can come to the dress rehearsal or a run through... Yesterday I was allowed to take photos during the performance itself (at my own discretion – which means that I sit in the front row, and no jumping around, and I only take photos when the music is certain to be at least thrice as loud as my camera…)… And you wouldn’t believe how many times I was sitting on the edge of my seat, seeing all those wonderful movements that could have been caught on err, well, ‘film’ and not wanting to squeeze the trigger so I would not disturb the other viewers… It is a really strange feeling… you are so close to being able to do something you really love, and yet so far… It is almost like when you are a teenager and you fall hopelessly in love and you befriend the girl because you reckon ‘at least I can be close to her’ and you spend a lot of time with her (which makes you feel good) but you want to touch her or kiss her all the time (which makes you feel anxious)… (or was that just me?)
(Anyway, I was sitting next to professional photographer and the two of us had the same attitude as to when to take photographs, but on the other side of me sat an elderly guy, for whom I can only assume that he was a proud father of one of the dancers, as he never stopped taking photographs… and you could hear the click, click, click of the shutter all the time… well except during one part of the performance, which was performed in silence and you could only hear the dancers’ bodies (and which by the way was a part from which excellent photos could be made…)

Watch me love; Is it enough?
I don't know. It could be enough. It could be too much. Or maybe it just isn't enough. Or you might not even love me at all. Maybe I just don't notice it. Maybe I just don't notice you. Maybe you don't notice me. Maybe you just love the idea of me. Maybe love doesn't exist...
Maybe we will find out one of these days...

Plan B
Turned out to be my plan A (that was such an obvious starting line I am almost ashamed of it, but hey, it just had to roll out of my head and down the arms into the fingers and onto the keyboard). Unfortunately for him, he was kind of plan b at his own concert. You see, the koncert kicked off with human beatbox Faith SFX who was excellent. After a couple of, well, hmmm, songs I guess, he went off and let Plan B and his gang take over...
Anyway, I guess whatever he sang at this stage, the girls (mostly) had only one song in mind and that wasn't one of his... It was I wanna hold your hand (obviously)

Reggae Pink Floyd
A strange experience. But good. I heard the Beatles, Pink Floyd (and some Radiohead) all in a reggae version. Also got some good vibes, and something reminded me of the toaders (is that what they are or were called? - it has been a long long time) at the Notting Hill carnival...
I chose this picture for today 'cos I thought it provides a good contrast... the bass player is working hard, the guitar player is as cool as a cucumber... and yet it is the same concert, the same song...

Full evening
and how to chose? No idea... that's why it took me so long to come up with my blog post today... First it took ages to go through the photos... From the opening and BD and concert (where I missed the first band the one I really wanted to see (again) - sorry Joke) but I still saw 2 bands. In the end I decided to post this one... It is because I like the idea that the band that was on stage before comes amongst the crowd and enjoys the next band... It seems simple. Real. The way it should be.
So here is a member of Joke enjoying the Red Five Point Stars...

The conversation was all about still life
On a day when you find it hard to go out and socialise and you just truly want and need a good dynamic photosession to put your mind off your life, you get a static, verbal performance. Unfortunately I have not yet conquered the mastery of photographing words and even though I have since the performance got some ideas as to what I could have done, at the time I was just too miserable to think about experimenting...

Total anarchy
Just to keep you on your toes, the blog format has to be a tad different every now and then...
So today, after I had no (null, zero, zilch, nada) photos yesterday, I will not have 1 photo, I will not have two photos, I will have three photos...
Photo No.1
Street theatre... as I was on the way to a gallery to take some photos I saw parts of two shows ... The first one that I just caught the very end of, the part where the pink alliens leave the scene, looked a bit like this....
Photo No. 2
After finishing the gallery stuff (which you will see none of this time), I stumbled into a reherasal of a young jazz band... I just heard some music from the building next door, and I thought it could be fun to pop in and have a look... so I listened to a few songs, took a few photos (you have to take a few pictures of the newcomers, don't you... they usually lack photos, as all the photographers are taking photos of the big bands) and then I continued for the coffee date... it is the weekend after all...
Photo No. 3
This photo is from the dance rehearsal I was supposed to go yesterday, so it had to be included in the post. So, as you can see I managed to get to the dance performance 24 hours later. And that made me a happy bunny, so I better just finish the blog while I am on the up...

The way things are
I was planning to go and photo a dance performance in the evening, but while driving to the airport (no, I was not going to catch a plane to get to the dance performance - even though that might happen one day, you never know) I received a phone call telling me that it all went a bit haywire so no photo opportunity today. Unfortunately that confused me so much (I was sure this will be my photo op. of the day so my brain was not thinking (at all)) that I didn't take a single photo in the entire day... Yes, this does happen sometimes... It is strange, but that is the way it goes....
So what have I got for you? Well nothing really. I did a little step dance routine while nobody was looking, but, hey, nobody was looking, so that doesn't really count. And I am not in the mood to write a poem... and I don't have an idea to write a short story (my brain focused today on developing an idea for a photo exhibition)... so, basically... I got nothing.
(Hope you enjoyed my day of quiet (as regards photos, but not typing obviously) and I will be back)

World domination
By some strange coincidence we entered the gallery and in the first room there was this globe (no this is not the strange coincidence yet, be patient...) Strolling across the globe was this ladybird (if anyone wondered, it takes a ladybird less than 2 minutes to circle the world, and that is around the equator). So of course, we (there were 2 of us with cameras) started taking photos, ‘cos we thought it was quite funny, but after all it was a culture day and why wouldn’t ladybirds visit galleries and enjoy art?... So a few photos later, we stepped into the second room and there was a wall covered in various slogans, one of which read: Will insects overtake us?...
Now, is that a coincidence one has to ask oneself?
(to be continued... )

Oh, some days
you know when things just go a bit wrong. I went to fetch my dad to the airport and the story included three cars (one of which is mine and is at the mechanics, so it was out of the running from the very start, one that decided did not like me and behaved like a spoilt brat not moving from its little room with all its toys (or was that just a parking space?) and one that was on the cards and then wasn't but then in the final option it was back on again, as the options were slowly running out). Anyway all this car business made me running low on time and then coming to the airport just as my dad stepped out of it, so no airport photos for you all (even though I thought that would make a nice change). And then the rest of the day went sort of unplanned but just before midnight we were returning back home (after a pizza that turned into a Guinness and into a film evening with friends (also made by them - which is a double Yey!)... so I could tuck my dad into bed and tell him a goodnight story :)

Post-concert concert
After the concert I went to a party (no, not the official afterparty), which actually turned out to be one of those 'Oh my, this room is full of musicians, I know, let's make some music.' And... errr... I enjoyed it more than the concert... Full of emotions and excellent singing (from pop to opera) and some good guitar playing... A bunch of pros having a good time and showing each other what they are capable of on a good evening... Of course, the photo had to come from the party...

For a friend of mine
who wrote a song once, a long time ago, that she put into music. And more than a decade later I see her playing for the first time since she & my friend were trying to come up with the score in my living room.
Do you still write poetry? (Oh and this is how the song turned out in the end.)
