The day after

So this is what it looks like after it had snowed for an entire day.

Saturday, 30 January 2010

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Snowing all day. Not even a little photo op break in between. So I had to take my waterproof camera and go and take a photo... And here it is. Unfortunately I was not quite as waterproof as my camera...

The day Ljubljana Ran out of Guinness

Friday night. After a tough week you and your mates go to your local for a well deserved pint. You know how it goes. Work, work, work... and then Friday night...
'A pint of my favourite please, you wonderful bartender.'
'We are all out, I am afraid.'
'....' Yup, that is me speechless. For the first time this year I came for a pint of my favourite and what do I get? Yup! You guessed it. Nothing. Nada, zilch, zip, zero...

Opening night

At an opening. I did take photographs of the performance and various pieces of art, but as the Voina group from Russia repeatedly told me that contemporary art is crap and the artists should be shot or tortured, I decided I will ignore the exhibition itself (I know, it is appalling how easily I can be convinced) and post a portrait I did at this exhibition.

The empty streets of Ljubljana

Even though I had a full day which also included some working... yeah the stuff that puts a roof in my stomach and some bread and butter over my head... it more importantly included plenty of photo opportunities. I took a couple of dogs and a friend for walkies, I went to a storytelling event to the cancer clinic and I went to an exhibition opening. But my favourite few photos were taken on my way back home. And here is one of them... the empty streets of Ljubljana.

Early morning concert

Now I know I am not a metal fan. Nor am I a grind / death / crust / trash / punk / hardcore fan. Well, punk I like... Some of it anyway. Not so much the Pistols (we are gonna trash the place just because we can and because this is hip) but more the Clash type (we have something to say and instead of doing nothing we will at least record a song or two about it) - well that's how I see it anyway, but I was too young at the time so I have not got a clear picture of it... But anyway that is not really important. Tuesday morning. It is cold. It is not even 10 am. And I am on my bike to see a concert. i just had to experience an early morning hardcore concert served with coffee & tea. Wouldn't you?

Sometimes you are lost for words (and photos)

I know. This could be called cheating. But on this day I did not take any photos. But what I did do was manipulate a series of 11 photos and I got a result I liked. So here is one of the series for the rest of you to enjoy.

Eyes you have to look into

Another one of those days. I took loads of photos. Some of Irena's paintings, some of Branka's birthday, some of Intosomething's party at K4. But this was my fav. And no, even though my long lost brother is on it, it is not because of him. Look harder. I know, you probably can't see it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that stuff. It is in that girl's eyes (or maybe it was just the fact that she spoke to me in English with a French accent - hmmm could that be a family thing, what do you say Roger?).

Active denial

Well, today my artist friend asked me to go and take some photos of her exhibition. Who am I to say no to a young and starving artist? So, here is a portrait of her from that day.

1 photo... I mean 1 photo!!

I know, it is unbelievable. Beyond! Belief, that is. There was this day and I took no more and no less than 1 photo. Well the selection for this blog was not that hard, but still... 1 photo?!?
Sometimes I go to things that I do not photograph. Well, obviously even on those occassions I have a hard time not taking photos.

Sticker novel

I responded (together with Jaka Z.) to Scott Rettberg's call for photographing a sticker novel. Basically he sent you a bunch of stickers and you had to photograph them in various public spaces. So on this fine Sunday morning Jaka and I set off to take some photos. A good day for me, as I am usually the type of photographer who tries to capture the moment and here I had to think about how to set up thing, what do I want in the background (the foreground was clear - it had to be a sticker)... lots of visualising beforehand. The day was not quite as good for Jaka as he got bored rather quickly. It is probably much harder being the camera assistant and prop man than the photographer.

Lollobrigida

Friday night. Concert night. After various mishaps (broken hearts and similar disasters) that made me miss Lollobrigida on a couple of occassions, I finally managed to get to their concert. I will not bore you with the portrait photos from the band members, instead I will post a photo from when my cousin jumped on stage and danced with the band (yeah, I know this one is not dancing, but I prefered this one to the dancing ones). He did good. They did good. Did I do good?

Brejc does Cerce

Went to be guided round the exhibition. At this moment our guide (Tomaz Brejc) got lost in his thoughts (which is I think a mark of a great thinker).

It is always good to have artist friends... An opening is never far away

Damjan, Tjasa and I trying to do our version of the exhibited work. Not quite the same, but then, we are not plain copycats, are we?

First snow of the decade

I know. I just could not excuse my thrill over the snow with a simple: Snow or Snow again, or Hey, look, snow is falling or something like that. I had to give it a big pompous title and thus make it sound much more important. I am not sure why I chose this picture, but it kinda took me back to childhood.

Out of town

Some days you just have to leave town. Not because somebody makes you, not because it is not big enough for you and ..., not because the police is tight on your heels, but just because you can. Or rather you need to see if you can. Even though this is a way of getting out of town I do not recomend it.

End of the naughties

As the naughty (I know, misspelling) decade ended, a few friends and myself launched a good-wish-hot-air-paper-light-chinese-thingy. It went high. Does this symbolise that our wishes were just hot air?
